Brief History

The “Friends of the Manoel” was set up in 1986 and since then has organised numerous vocal/instrumental concerts at Sala Isouard that introduced performers who have now established their artistic talent abroad. The “Friends” sponsored “Coffee with Venus”, one of the concerts of the Valletta International Baroque Festival 2014 and have held various talks, educational and cultural tours and social activities.


“Friends of the Manoel” have, so far, donated…

• towards the installation of the lift to Sala Isouard

• new chairs in the Sala Isouard
  
• a piano for use in Sala Isouard
  
• a set of new carpets for the Theatre
  
• new stage curtains
  
• towards the costs of a number of recitals

President for Friends of the Manoel

Carmen Gatt Baldacchino was unanimously chosen by the Committee as the new President of the Friends of the Manoel. 

“Since its inception, the Friends of the Manoel have been supporting the Theatre in various ways, including promoting its events and raising funds for various causes which recently have included the purchase of the fire proof curtains for the stage as well as sponsorship of events,” said Mrs Gatt Baldacchino. “We encourage theatre lovers to join us to contribute further in ensuring our national theatre continues to be the treasure it is.”

Mrs Gatt Baldacchino has been a member of the Friends’ committee since 2001, coordinating activities. She became vice president in 2006. Currently, the association embraces some 300 members.

The other members of the committee are Johann Tisch - vice-president; Cecilia Xuereb – secretary; Charles Falzon – treasurer and members Margaret Tisch, Doris Camilleri and Silke Schermann.
