Description

TEATRU MANOEL and MASQUERADE are seeking FOUR PERFORMERS for a seventy-minute adaptation of the Dicken’s classic, A Christmas Carol to be staged at Teatru Manoel from 18th to  20th December 2020, following self-distancing regulations.

The first of the four will play Ebenezer Scrooge with the other three taking every other role as detailed in the breakdown below.
The three multi-role performers will need to have good vocal skills as different accents / dialects will be needed

PERFORMER ONE
Male, playing age mid-fifties to early-sixties

Ebenezer Scrooge
The miserly owner of a nineteenth century London counting-house.
 

PERFORMER TWO
Male, playing age eight to late-thirties
 
Bob Cratchit
Scrooge's clerk, a kind, mild, and very poor man with a large family. Though treated harshly by his boss, Cratchit remains a humble and dedicated employee.

Dick Wilkins
A gentleman friend of Fred, Scrooge’s nephew, who knew Ebenezer in his youth

Child
An eight-year old child


The Ghost of Christmas Past
The first spirit to visit Scrooge, a curiously childlike apparition with a glowing head. He takes Scrooge on a tour of Christmases in his past. The spirit uses a cap to dampen the light emanating from his head.


PERFORMER THREE
Female, playing age eighteen to late-twenties

Samuel
A young man, down on his luck, who is in debt to Scrooge to the tune of twebnty-shillings but not in a position to repay

Topper
One of two gentlemen who visits Scrooge seeking charitable contributions.

Belle
A beautiful woman who Scrooge loved deeply when he was a young man.
The Ghost of Christmas Present
The second spirit to visit Scrooge, a majestic giant clad in a green robe. His lifespan is restricted to Christmas Day. He escorts Scrooge on a tour of his contemporaries' Holiday celebrations.


PERFORMER FOUR
Male or Female, playing age late-twenties to mid-thirties

Fred
Scrooge's nephew, a genial man who loves Christmas. He invites Scrooge to his Christmas party each and every year, only to be refused by his grumpy uncle.

Ghost of Jacob Marley
In the living world, Ebenezer Scrooge's equally greedy partner. Marley appears to Scrooge as a ghost condemned to wander the world bound in heavy chains.

Fezziwig
The jovial merchant with whom the young Scrooge apprenticed; he is also one of two gentlemen who visits Scrooge seeking charitable contributions.


Mrs Cratchit
Bob’s wife, generally kind and loving but not of Scrooge, she hawks the dead Ebenezer’s belonging selling them on.

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come
The third and final spirit to visit Scrooge, a silent phantom clad in a hooded black robe. He presents Scrooge with an ominous view of his lonely death.

Send your CV and headshot (in one pdf – max 3 pages) to info@masquerademalta.com by 12 noon on Tuesday 10th November 2020
 
Chosen auditionees will be notified by Wednesday 11th November and should prepare one two-minute speech from either a Dickens play or from another play of the same period or use one from this document
 
They should also prepare one Christmas carol to sing unaccompanied.
 
AUDITIONS: Thursday 12 November 2020 from 7pm.

VENUE: M Space/Blue Box in Msida.

REHEARSALS will be evenings and weekends commencing Sunday 15 November 2020

PRODUCTION WEEK commences from Monday 14 December 2020

PERFORMANCES: 
Friday 18th December 2020 @ 8pm
Saturday 19th December @ 4pm & 8pm
Sunday 20th December @ 4pm & 8pm
