AUDITIONS: 10 x Decameron
Boccaccio’s Decameron is a series of 100 stories told by 10 individuals who have quarantined themselves away from 14th century Florence to escape the Black Death.
Just like today it was a time for isolation but also a time when people needed entertainment, and preferably Live entertainment!
Subtitled ‘The Human Comedy’, Chris Gatt and Andre Agius have chosen 20 of these stories which will be delivered in 2 sets of 10 monologues.
We are then asking 10 groups of no more than 6 people in each group to meet the 10 storytellers who will be placed around various parts of the Manoel Theatre, in the auditorium, on stage and also behind the scenes backstage. All COVID-19 recommendations will be strictly adhered to.
We are looking for performers, actors, composer/singers, dancers, stand-up comedians and multimedia creators (sound and/or vision).
Together with the director and the dramaturg each of the creators will reinterpret two of the stories. They will be expected to be full protagonists in the creation of these stories through words, song, music dance and multimedia
Each story should be approximately 5 to 6 minutes long and will be interpreted 5 times each performance.
The performers will work with the director (Chris Gatt) and the dramaturg (Andre Agius) to create their own interpretation of the stories. These stories cover the wide spectrum of humanity from comedy to tragedy from love to eroticism.
The production is produced by Teatru Manoel and Chris Gatt and supported by Arts Council Malta.
Tentative dates (COVD-19) permitting are the 10th to 15th November 2020 and there will be six performances in all.
Auditions can be in person or self-tape.
In-house auditions will take place on Saturday 19th September 2020 from 3pm. Ideally performers should present a piece of their own writing/composition/choreography
